That defense the preds have is perfect for lavas system. They would be good for anyone but lava unleashes the skill on the back end

Happy for Laviolette, who is obviously a good coach and was good for this organization.

It's a shame that either he couldn't adjust to the personnel we had here or that the GM couldn't provide Laviolette with what he needed to succeed.

Lavi wasn't perfect, but the last 12-18mos, he was undermined by the GM.

I don't think it was intentional on the part of Holmgren, so much as a series of bad decisions or moves that didn't pan out.

As for Lavvy, he didn't always help himself, I think. Towards the end, he reminded me of one of those football coaches who trot out the same offensive system regardless of whether or not they have the personnel to run "their" offense.

Thanks Bill. Ahh, the Lindros days. The shoot out free days...remember them fondly..lol.
I am just curious Bill, are there any stats on the leagues longest road trips, and the longest number of games played in a weeks time or consecutively? It seems that the Flyers get these crazy number of games in a short period of time, every season. I would love to have a word with the goofballs that make up the scheduling.

agreed. i think holmgren made some excellent moves and some that didn't work out. i kind of wish we had kept lavy around and see what he could have done in a couple years w/ the young D coming up. i always kind of admired buffalo and nashville for letting coaches stay around despite not winning it all and their teams being somewhat awful at times

Happy Holidays everyone. Thanks Bill for working through it, it is appreciated!

How about that EDM team? 8 straight losses with no end in sight. I can't believe the whole management group wasn't let go. If I have to watch them get McDavid I am gong to puke. And EDM is one of my favourite teams out West.

Happy the Flyers aren't them! Last few games have been a real holiday gift.

Me too! I got tickets to go see the world junior games on the fourth and the fifth for Christmas, so I will hopefully/probably get to see him live for the first time.

Flyers always go on this Christmas road trip because of the Disney on ice poop every year. Sixers are forced to do the same thing. The longest road trips are rarely longer than 8 games.

I remember when the deal happened all I had heard was Erat got traded to the Capitals. I thought it was a decent acquisition as long as they didn't give up a future stud like Forsberg. Then you hear Forsberg's name I've had that same feeling way too many times as a Flyers fan

one thing i really liked about him in preseason was his mobility... and if he makes a mistake has the speed to close a gap quickly. you cznt teach those things but he'll need 3 seasons with murray before the nhl sooo dont get too excited

To an extent, sure. But at the same time a coach has to adapt to better fit his personnel. Sad thing is, now with Streit, MDZ & even Schultz and MacDonald, this team would probably be better with Laviolette behind the bench, at least in terms of systemic fit.

Seemed to me like Homer wanted to shift directions and go full Bruins/Rangers, started adding the personnel to fit that vision, and pretty much mandated to Lavi that he become Claude Julien or else.

Should have just fired Lavi the minute they stopped believing in his system, instead of expecting a tiger to change his stripes.
